Historic steamboats as living film sets on Lake Lucerne
Location
Vierwaldstättersee
Description
The fleet of steamboats on Lake Lucerne is unique in the world: five majestic paddle steamers from the Belle Époque, lovingly restored and still in operation today. Built between 1901 and 1928, the fleet combines technical pioneering spirit with timeless elegance – and offers a backdrop that is rarely found elsewhere. This special character has repeatedly brought the steamers to the attention of international filmmakers: scenes for La Chimera (2023, directed by Alice Rohrwacher), Ludwig 1881 (1993), Brass Target (1978) were shot on the Schiller, and scenes for Indochine with Catherine Deneuve (1993) were shot on the Uri.
