Hardly any other region in Switzerland is home to as many natural treasures as the UNESCO Entlebuch Biosphere. It hosts the country’s largest and most numerous moorland landscapes, impressive karst areas, and a flora and fauna of (inter)national significance. No surprise then that 20 years ago, the Entlebuch was designated Switzerland’s first biosphere reserve by UNESCO.
Since then, the UNESCO Entlebuch Biosphere has been committed to truly sustainable practices in all areas. Among other things, it actively promotes gentle tourism with nature- and climate-friendly offerings. Apparently, with great success – during the ten-year evaluation by UNESCO in 2011, the Entlebuch Biosphere was elevated to a model biosphere for the world.
We are proud of this recognition – and we continue to work towards this goal.
