First hostel after the Gotthard Pass

Location

Hospental Dorf

Description

The name of the village Hospental comes from "hospitale" and thus from hostel. It is located at the confluence of the Furka and Gotthard rivers. In the 9th century the monastery of Disentis founded the first hostel. Due to the development of the alpine passes, the village flourished. In addition to the historic village center with numerous wooden houses, there is still the tower of the Lords of Hospental from the 13th century and a baroque parish church from 1708. Important buildings have been restored in recent years.
